We've all seen those plastic shiny sleek mannequins, staring blindly back at us through glass, modeling clothing and accessories that most likely will not look like the same on you, but we stare anyway. This video turns that entire paradigm upside down.
Imagine this, do you think these 'disabled' people have ever seen themselves represented by mannequins in shop storefronts? Furthermore, what do you think other people would think seeing such mannequins of figures far from similar to their own?
And who came up with the concept that these people are disabled? They all could smile, laugh, cry. And boy did this video make me cry, to watch their joy as they saw themselves immortalized in the form of those omni-present shop mannequins. Maybe just that once. And maybe just once is all we need to feel seen.
I grew up with my Aunt Linda who was on crutches most of my life and has been wheel-chair bound for many many years, and I'll tell you she shaped my life as much as anyone.
